IT'S A FEDERAL MANDATE AS OF
APRIL 2010 FOR ALL RESIDENCES BUILT PRIOR TO 1978!
Regardless of the current use as a home, a office or
rental property you have obligations you need to be aware of for these
older properties as an owner, a manager, a realtor, a contractor or a
tenant.
KNOW your obligations.
Homes and buildings built before 1978 are likely to
contain lead-based paint, varnish and/or other products that can be a
hazard when disturbed. Renovation, repair, or painting work done
in these projects could release lead dust or create lead chips which can
be harmful to you, your family and/or your residents. The EPA's Lead
Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP) requires that firms
performing renovations, repairs or painting projects in buildings prior
to 1978 that disturb lead-based surfaces must be a certified renovator
who has been trained and certified by an EPA-approved training program to
provide and follow lead-safe work practices. In addition there are
requirements for homeowners, property owners and property managers for
notifications, record keeping and reporting of these renovations that
are a part of the RPP Law that follow the property when bought or sold.
